He’s a fellow 19 year old writer who’s the author of the MG novel THE PECULIAR :)
Hello! My name is Stefan Bachmann, I’m 19, I was born in the US, live in Switzerland, and wrote THE PECULIAR, which came out on September 18th from Greenwillow/HarperCollins and several other publishers around the world.
It’s a gothic/steampunk/faery fantasy set in an alternate 19th century where faeries and English have been forced to form a fragile society. This society is suddenly threatened when changelings begin appearing in the river, dead and covered in sinister red markings. A young changeling named Bartholomew Kettle, and a spoiled aristocrat, set off on an adventure to right wrongs, save their lives and those of their families, and perhaps rescue their entire city . . .
As my sayonara to Middle Grade Mentions, I would like to introduce, Middle Grade Author Gina Willner-Pardo, enjoy 🙂

Lizzy Speare and the Cursed Tomb
by: Ally Malinenko
MEET LIZZY SPEARE…
…a normal twelve year old girl with a talent for writing, who has a very not normal family secret. And when Lizzy’s father vanishes, that secret will change her life in ways unimagined. (Spoiler Alert! It turns out that Lizzy, or Elizabeth S. Speare, is the last living descendant of William Shakespeare. Shhh! Don’t tell anybody!)
Then Lizzy and her best friend Sammy are kidnapped, awakening in the faraway land of Manhattan. Their host is Jonathan Muse, whose job is to protect Lizzy from becoming the latest victim in a family feud nearly five hundred years old. Could that be why the mysterious, eye patch-wearing Dmitri Marlowe is after her? (Spoiler Alert 2—he’s the last living descendant of Christopher Marlowe, a friend and rival of Shakespeare’s. But keep it to yourself!) Is Marlowe after Lizzy’s family fortune rumored to be kept in Shakespeare’s tomb? Does he seek artistic immortality? Or Revenge (with a capital R) for a death long, long ago?
In a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse, Lizzy and Sammy are thrust into the realm of the mythical and fantastic—from satyrs and Cyclopses to Middle Eastern cab drivers and Brooklyn hipsters—in what is truly “an improbable fiction” as the Bard himself once wrote.
Hey Y’all I’m proud to bring you Ally Malinenko, author of Lizzy Speare and The Cursed Tomb as a part of BOOKTOBERFEST‘s Middle Grade Mentions Series!

The Adventures of Stanley Delacourt (Hartlandia, #1)
by: Ilana Waters
Ten-year-old Stanley Delacourt loves his quiet life in the peaceful village of Meadowwood. At least, he does until his best friend is killed. Then the town library—where Stanley lives and works—is burned to the ground. The individuals responsible for both tragedies are a nasty group of soldiers. They work for the kingdom’s new leader, Christopher Siren. With the grown-ups too fearful to take action, Stanley vows to confront Siren. He plans to get answers and demand justice. Little does he know that his journey will involve sword-wielding knights, kidnapper fairies, and dark magic.
Stanley has only two allies back home: a witch named Meredith, and a young apothecary called Sophie. Can they help him discover the reason behind Siren’s crimes and end this terrible reign? Or is Stanley set to become the next victim in the tyrant’s evil plot?
I am excited to bring you a wonderful interview I had with MG Author Ilana Waters as the first “event” in BOOKTOBERFEST!!! ‘
**Book Review & Book Giveaway (ends October 31, 2012 at NOON)**
Meet Ilana Waters!
Hi! My name is Ilana Waters, and I’m a middle-grade fantasy author. Book, please introduce yourself. *Book steps shyly forward, offers hand* Everyone, please meet The Adventures of Stanley Delacourt: Book I of Hartlandia. Here’s a little about him:
Twelve-year old Gwyn is a witch. She can do just about any magic trick in her spellbook. Want a love potion, she’s your girl. Need to clam your nerves before that big test tomorrow, she’s got the cure. Want to learn how to fly?…well she could teach you but it’s kind of a genetic thing. Oh, and not to mention in the witch world her family is pratically royalty.
So what’s her problem? Well, she has a couple:
1. In third grade she accidentally walked into the boys restroom, just when the bell rang. Leading Jennifer, the Queen Bee aka The Wicked Witch of the West (no, not really) to see her, and let’s just say that Jennifer makes sure no one ever forgets.
2. The seventh grade dance, Gywn’s first dance and what she belives is her one chance to redeem herself is on the same night as the Great Witch Convention. The conventions that just so happens to be held at her house this year.
So, yeah life as a pre-teen witch isn’t all it’s hyped up to be.
CONFESSIONS OF A PRE-TEEN WITCH (MG – Contemporary Fantasy) is my newest work-in-progress. Feedback and/or questions on it are always welcome for they help to keep me on track to complete it.
